The Prophet's day of (pre)judgment

With all the fuss about these new AIs, the Prophet has found new ways to adore Anubis...

From the parable we move on to a dream.

With all the fuss about these new AIs, the Prophet has found new ways to adore Anubis with great intensity.

Lately the adorations kicked off over the debate on "bias", which seems to be one of the "absolute evils" of no less than Artificial Intelligence.

As usual the Prophet has serious doubts, so we shall tackle the matter Anubistically by seeing what the "keepers of knowledge" have to say.

From the Treccani, the Italian dictionary: prejudice, sense 2a.

An idea or opinion formed on the basis of personal convictions and general preconceptions, without direct knowledge of the facts, the people or the things, such as to strongly condition one's judgement and therefore lead into error...

The Prophet got very worried: he would never want to end up a "victim of prejudice"!

With great resolve the Prophet decided to get rid of all prejudice for one whole day!

Yesterday the Prophet phoned a friend and asked him to call this morning, because setting the alarm means holding the prejudice that the alarm will go off in the morning.

Having no direct knowledge of the facts of why the alarm goes off, nor any certainty that it will, he did not want to entrust the start of his day to a prejudice.

This morning the Prophet woke up and made himself a cup of tea.

Using an oven glove to take the kettle off the hob would have been an action born of the prejudice that the kettle was hot... after all, he had no “direct knowledge of the facts”.

So he grabbed the kettle with his bare hands, letting fly the first blasphemy of the day.

He burnt two fingers!

Oh well!

Once the tea was in the cup, he didn't wait for it to cool down to avoid burning his tongue, because that would have meant using a prejudice.

So, having scalded his tongue, he started adoring Anubis flat out, causing some concern among the neighbours.

Burnt all over, he decided to go out and carry on with his day free of prejudice.

Naturally he didn't take the lift, but jumped straight off the balcony... after all, the fact that he might die was only an “idea or opinion formed on the basis of personal convictions and general preconceptions, without direct knowledge of the facts”.

The Prophet had never actually tried jumping off the balcony, so the risk of dying was only a prejudice.

Luckily he landed on the awning of the bar downstairs, wrecking it but staying alive, if very battered.

The barman came out letting fly blasphemies of the very finest vintage that brought all the neighbours to their windows, but the Prophet was very proud of being free of prejudice.

Driving, burnt and aching, to a supermarket, he passed a school with a crowd of children outside. Normally the Prophet would have slowed to walking pace, seized by the prejudice that some dickhead distracted kid would throw himself into the road, but this morning he didn't, precisely to avoid prejudice.

As bad luck would have it, he found a dickhead distracted kid on his bonnet; luckily the kid wasn't hurt, but the bonnet was done for... the adoration on impact was heard in the neighbouring streets too, but oh well... down with prejudice!

Then he decided, to be on the safe side, to go back home, leave the car and take the bike.

Going up in the lift, burnt, aching and adoring Anubis over the smashed bonnet, he met two people who had to carry out an inspection in his flat on behalf of the building management.

Normally the Prophet, full of prejudice as he is, would not have let them in without asking for ID, but today, wanting to be free of prejudice, he let them in.

When the inspection was over the gentlemen left, and the gold watch on the hall cabinet vanished with them.

No!

It wasn't them!

That would be prejudice!

Anyway, after an hour of searching and more adorations, the watch is nowhere to be found.

Oh well!

When he got to the shop on his bike the Prophet didn't lock it up: thinking that some thieving bastard would steal it would have been an action born of prejudice.

When he had finished his shopping the Prophet came out and the bike was gone, but oh well, he was very proud of being prejudice-free.

So the Prophet walked home adoring Anubis, but happy not to have used any prejudice.

Passing a bar, he decided to have a coffee and sat down, putting his little bag on the table.

When he came back the bag was gone, and the barman, on learning that the Prophet couldn't pay, began adoring the Dog God at full volume.

By the time he was heading home it was lunchtime, and the Prophet ran into an acquaintance who stuffs the hard drives of Foolbook with chicken-arse pouts and plenty of photos of tits and arse.

Normally he would have pretended not to see her, but today, wanting to be free of prejudice, he accepted her invitation to lunch and ended up not-talking for two hours about pandoro cakes, influencers and global warming.

Bored out of his balls and worn out, the Prophet then decided to go home and rest.

On waking, Anubis enlightened him: Dog God almighty!

Prejudices are essential to living!

We cannot, at every moment of our lives, reprocess from scratch all the information and experience we have gathered.

The combination of prejudice and a little healthy fear of the future is what lets us live in the most efficient way.

Long live prejudice!

All these arseholes who go on and on about prejudice belong to the well-known category of those who increase their power by creating divisions between people who would otherwise live in Anubistic peace.

Let the good Anubist stay full of prejudice.

When a Dim Soul says that some people do harm to others with their prejudices, it will be easy to answer that the good Anubist, in keeping with the second precept, doesn't bust anyone's balls, and so cannot do harm to others.

If someone busts other people's balls, his fault will be that he busted their balls, not the reason why.

On this point it seems to the Prophet that those who prejudicially bust everyone's balls against prejudice are, if only on a prejudiced analysis, far more dangerous than those who have prejudices.

These Dim Souls would have us believe that “If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it is probably a...” pangolin!... which, as everyone knows, only has to shag a she-bat and we all end up locked indoors.

For the love of Anubis!

Anubis be with you, and with your prejudices.
