Anubistic “certainties”

Adepts know the Prophet seems to have a mania for destroying certainties: sadly, in the name of “certainties” the worst damage in the history of the world has been done.
The Prophet, like a good ballbuster Enlightened One, has written a great deal of crap illuminating reflections.
Fishing at random from an old manuscript devoted to femininity:
“Try keeping still for ten seconds or so… are you still?
Good, or rather bad: you are spinning around the centre of the Earth at roughly a thousand km an hour.
Not a nice feeling, is it?
On top of that, you are also moving through space, relative to the sun, at 100,000 km an hour.
Still keeping still? Good!
The whole solar system is travelling through space at 1,552,000 km an hour (one million five hundred and fifty-two thousand km/h).
You just keep still, mind…
You are like a spinning top inside a washing machine on the spin cycle, thrown off a skyscraper, yet convinced you are standing still. Sublime!
Either it is all false, or humans have evolved with sensors that can perceive relative acceleration but not speed.
In other words, to survive you have developed systems that let you take the piss out of yourself.
Still keeping still, right?
Social life is exactly the same... a search for ways not to notice how much you are being taken for a ride; and these systems work all the better the less you realise you built them yourself.
Some say the Earth is actually flat and motionless, but that is not what this book is about.
Many have tackled the subject philosophically, but Plato's Allegory of the Cave surely remains the most representative.
The one who nails the problem in two lines, though, is Nietzsche: “It is warmer on the heights than people in the valleys suppose, especially in winter.
The thinker knows what this simile means”.
The people of the valleys stand for those who, not looking into things, have a less “lofty”, more limited view of reality.
The heights stand for the place where those who think reside, with a view of reality more “from above”, if a very “uncomfortable” one (it is cold up there).
Those who don't look into things think that those who do are “cynical”, that they suffer, that they don't have a good life, that they are paranoid and so on…
In reality it isn't so (it is warmer than people suppose), and above all when “the going gets tough”, in the hardest moments (in winter).
Dear Anubists, don't strive to keep still, it can't be done; don't look for easy certainties, they are comfortable but false.
Strive instead to understand what is moving around you, or better, how much you are moving relative to reality; it is the only way to try to understand it.
“The problem is not people being uneducated.
The problem is that people are educated just enough to believe what they have been taught, and not educated enough to question anything from what they have been taught.” Richard Feynman
